COMMUNITY INVITED TO FIRST TASTE OF NEWTOWN FESTIVAL
The community is invited to join the family fun at the inaugural “Taste of Newtown Festival” Sat., June 21, 2008 2pm to 8 pm at Fredd “Glossie” Atkins Park and on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way, from Links Ave. to Washington Court. Admission is free.
The “Taste of Newtown Festival” will feature more than 20 local restaurants and neighborhood chefs, preparing incredible cuisine you will find only in Newtown. Southern-style cooking will be featured along with the finest selection of fresh vegetables. An array of vendors will be on hand selling wood carvings, handmade jewelry, perfumes and many more items. Live music by local jazz, R & B, gospel and hip-hop artists also will be showcased.
The “Taste of Newtown Festival” is a direct result of the “New Beginning for Newtown” initiative. The economic development action committee, one of several committees created to bring sustainable change to Newtown, brainstormed that a food festival would provide an opportunity to attract people to the Newtown area to experience a sampling of some of the area’s popular restaurants. Look for the “New Beginning for Newtown” exhibit to learn more about the collaboration between Newtown residents, business owners and the City of Sarasota to revitalize North Sarasota.
The festival is sponsored by the Newtown Front Porch Neighborhood Revitalization Council, Inc. i n conjunction with the New Beginning Economic Development Action Committee, the City of Sarasota, Ringling College of Art and Design, NP Newtown Partners, Inc, The Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce, Sarasota County, SCOPE, Gecko’s Grill & Pub, and Golf Coast Golf Carts.
